That Special Time of Year!

Well kids it's that special time of year again. When the snow begins to fall, the colorful lights rise, and everyone takes the time to smile a little brighter, it's hard sometimes to not get at least a little jazzed by the atmosphere. Whether or not you celebrate during this time for whatever reason, I can only hope that you're having a wonderful way about it!

Seeing as how we're once again near the end of yet another year, now is not only a time for being with those you love, but a time for reflection and planning. Especially if you're an overly analytic, self-conscious, and critical someone like me.

While I can say that I certainly was more productive this year, I didn't manage to make good on some of my promises from last year. I have yet to finish The Gold Standard Retrospective like I said I would, and I didn't post nearly as much artwork as I feel I could have. A few of my own personal goals I also failed to meet, such as having at least four posts a month/one update per week. Not that I'm trying to make excuses for myself, but the surgery I had last month really threw me off my game, and I've had to deal with some health issues in regards to my mother. She's a stroke victim, and 2014 has been an exceptionally hard year for her and my family. I don't like to throw these sort of things up on the web mostly because I want to keep the mood positive whenever someone comes to my little corner of the internet. As my loyal fans though, I feel that you're entitled to at least know why things have been the way they've been.

On the other hand though I did get a lot more done than I honestly thought I could given some of the extenuating circumstances. Some of the more fun pieces I've drawn I got up there for your viewing pleasure, and I certainly had a great run with the conventions I attended this year. 2014 got off to an amazing start with Magfest (and even with a whole year behind me now) it still feels surreal to me that I got to do an interview with the incredible Ellen McLain and her kickass husband John Patrick Lowrie. Having the table at Otakon this year proved to be one of the most gratifying experiences I've had in a long time, and the drinking contest I got to have with my best friend Matt at Gencon was incredible. I got some of my first writing credits through working with my good friend Shonuff44 (who moved fairly close to me this year) and working with him on his Squeek and Shred comic has been spectacular. I even managed to pull off a collaboration recently with my great friend Joe Silver. Considering that a lot of my artist friends moved on to do something with themselves (art wise that is) it was nice to be able to say that I worked on a piece with someone of an extremely professional caliber. I also (through some wacky holiday miracle) had my first successful RPG campaign. For those not in the know I recently ran as a GM for a Maid RPG with my good friends Matt, Crybringer, Bitmonkey, and my brother Justin. The transcripts of that game will eventually be put up for all to see, but trust me when I say that the game was amazingly fun. If anything else I can't wait to hop right back into the game after the holidays pass, and hit my players with the next wave of anime maid flavored madness.

Hopefully with the year to come things will only continue to improve and I'll be able to do even better than I did this year. I'm tossing around the idea of taking on commissions with the opening of 2015, and to maybe, hopefully, by some grace of God, get a story for everyone to read up and running. With that said, thank all of you for sticking with me for another 12 months! Raise a glass, here's to 2014!

Happy Holidays Everyone!!!
