Lucifer

Here is another one of my original characters from my long gestating story project "The Nexus." As you can more than likely tell from the title, this hansom fella here is Lucifer. Before you get any funny ideas though, he isn't exactly "THE LITERAL DEVIL" Lucifer is just the title he has been given.

His real name is something I won't reveal just yet, so (for now) know that most folks within the narrative simply refer to him as "The Morning Star" or "Lucifer." There's a healthy degree of backstory as to why the title exists in the manner it does, but I also won't reveal those exact details just yet either. We'll just have wait for the when those books are released.

The overall role he plays within the story is that of leader/chief representative and diplomat to the Hellion race. As one of the first (and currently only) elected officials to represent the Hellions in the "modern" section of the timeline, Lucifer wields a great deal of political powers and influence throughout several spheres. You'll see him (fairly) often, and while he isn't "Main Character" status, he's certainly of consequence to the plot's proceedings.

Lucifer may be flanked by body-guards, but he's a pretty approachable guy.

When outside of the political arena, he is (in all actuality) a pretty laid back person who mostly enjoys a fun bit of gambling, and a good game of pool/billiards. He can usually be found in his after hours at Purgatory Station, a massive, popular (and politically neutral) mid-way facility between what's considered Hellion space territories and Seraphic space territories.

While he can be a tad witty or downright smarmy at times, he usually has the best of intentions at heart. Despite his immensely crass and terse tone, a good deal of his witticisms are fairly insightful to those paying attention to his words. Think of him as sort of being the "lovable jerk" type that isn't afraid to say what everyone is fundamentally thinking (i.e. not much in the way of a social filter for conversation) in the same vein as Tony Stark/Iron Man from the Marvel movies.

If anything else I like to think of him as being a version of Tony Stark that never truly became the Iron Man, and instead went down a more directly political route. That isn't to say he can't throw down in a legit fight (as he's fairly badass in his own right) but aspects of his character and arc are an extension of that thought experiment.

Design-wise, I took a lot of influence from the character Ron McDougal from Outlaw Star (one of my all-time favorite shows) but he's mostly inspired by (a somewhat younger) Al Pacino, as well as Robert Deniro's portrayal of the (actual) Devil in the '87 horror film Angel Heart. The suit he's wearing isn't too dissimilar to the one worn by Mr. Deniro in that movie, or that of Tony Montana's (Scar Face) and I won't hesitate to admit that if I could somehow turn back the clocks and have a young Pacino (or Deniro) from that era play Lucifer, I totally would!
